KLFD On the Farm

KLFD hosted the annual "On the Farm" free breakfast at the Dan and Josh Barka Farm.  The Barka Farms were named the 2006 Farm Family of the Year for Meeker County.

Dan and Diane Barka, and Josh and Lynn Barka, own and operate Barka Farms, which was purchased in 1987 and is located 8 miles southwest of Litchfield.  The family started milking 50 cows at that time. They now milk 290 and have a compost barn. The Barkas also raise 900 acres of corn, barley and alfalfa and do custom chopping for 5 other farms.  On the farm, Dan works with the nutrition and mixes rations; Diane does bookwork and provides meals.  Josh manages the crop part of the business and his wife, Lynn helps where she is needed, in addition to caring for two young children.  The Barkas are members of Farm Bureau, Minnesota Milk and their local church.  The family has been involved with 4-H as members and adult leaders and hosts numerous farm tours throughout the year.  They have been board members of the Meeker County SWCD and Dan has been the Greenleaf Township supervisor.
