Future of Running Aces horse track in jeopardy

A revenue sharing dispute could shutdown Running Aces Harness Park in Columbus, Minn.

KSTP says the threat comes after a group of roughly 1,500 horse owners and trainers filed a petition to revoke the track’s gambling license.

Running Aces is required to share 3 percent of its card table money with horse owners and trainers at the Canterbury Park horse track in Shakopee.

However, Running Aces stopped making those payments — which now total nearly $350,000 — last summer after Mystic Lake Casino agreed to pay Canterbury Park $75 million over the next 10 years to boost racing purses.

Running Aces argues that deal nullified its revenue sharing contract with Canterbury Park.

The Racing Commission has not said when it will decide whether to take away the gambling licenses at Running Aces.
