United Methodist Turkey Dinner
Local News | October 1, 2012
The annual turkey dinner at Litchfield United Methodist Church is coming up on Wednesday from 4-to-7. Tickets are available in advance at Mary’s Jewelry in downtown Litchfield.
Church member Dean Ohland says tickets are $10 for adults, $6 for children 6-to-11, and free for children 5 and under. He says take-out meals are also available for 50-cents extra. Ohland says everyone from the church helps with the dinner and it’s a lot of fun.
Ohland says the annual turkey dinner is an important fundraiser for Litchfield United Methodist Church. He says the church is on South Sibley Avenue – just north of Lake Ripley Elementary School.
Church member Steve Kess says if you buy your ticket in advance, you can decide what time to eat and you’ll get seated right away when you arrive at the church. He says church dinners nation-wide seem to be going away, but locally, people seem to still enjoy attending each others church dinners.
Kess says it’s a lot of work preparing for the annual turkey dinner – they purchase 300-pounds of potatoes, 80 loaves of bread for the stuffing, 18-gallons of corn kernels and 9-gallons of cream-style corn for a special corn dish, 10-gallons of cranberry sauce, and 70-pounds of Cole slaw. He says there’s also homemade pie. The turkey dinner at Litchfield United Methodist Church is coming up on Wednesday from 4-to-7 p.m.
